We’ve all got our favorite TV actors, but some of them are objectively fantastic, therefore our personal opinion cannot really outweigh the general one. In the following, we’ll shed light on 20 of the highest-rated actors of all time.
We will be focusing on both actors from the past and actors from the modern age. This way, we’ll do justice to everybody. Let’s not waste another second and get to it.
1. Vincent Price
It is yet unclear to us what we love most about Vincent Price: his voice that could cradle babies to sleep or his absolutely pristine acting in old horror flicks, primarily in adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe short stories and poems.
There’s nothing like listening to him on a cold winter night with a cup of hot chocolate in your hands.
2. Clint Eastwood
When you think of Clint Eastwood, you can’t but picture Colts, deserts and gunslingers. He will always be one of the greatest representatives of the spaghetti western genre. It’s kind of sad we’ll never be as cool as he is.
3. Charles Chaplin
Charles Chaplin is a larger-than-life figure. He’s more than an actor – he’s the embodiment of the fears that permeated the era he lived in and the proof that you can say a lot without opening your mouth.
4. James Dean
Dean is very much of a mystery, even after decades, and an undying sex symbol. He didn’t star in many movies, but he didn’t need to because Rebel Without a Cause propelled him among the best actors of all times.
5. John Wayne
For at least 30 years, no one could surpass John Wayne in terms of charisma and professionalism on the screen. We all know him from the late-night westerns that kept us on our toes.
6. Ian McKellen
“Run, you fools!” When Gandalf tells you to run, you shouldn’t waste another second. Ian McKellen is one of the greatest figures of modern-day cinema and has played in roles that other actors would kill for.
7. Johnny Depp
It’s less likely that a person on this planet hasn’t heard of Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands or Tonto. Depp is hands down one of the most successful actors of the modern age and is partially responsible for giving extra life to Tim Burton’s gothic movies.
8. Heath Ledger
The best Joker Batman ever fought against and a wound on the cinema industry that will never heal. There has seldom been a young actor with such potential. Unfortunately, he was cut down in his prime.
9. Christopher Lee
Sir Christopher Lee has had roles in most blockbusters of the 21st century: the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and Dracula, among others. He was one of the titans of classic horror movies, alongside his longtime friends Vincent Price and Peter Cushing.
10. Gary Oldman
Oldman is best known for his roles as Dracula, Batman’s help in The Dark Knight franchise and Sirius Black from the Harry Potter. The list of movies he has starred in could go on forever.
11. Mel Gibson
The fact that you don’t hear much about him these days, he was, at one point, more famous than any other actor. He played notable roles in Braveheart, Lethal Weapon and Bird on a Wire.
12. Will Smith
Who else could start punching an alien right in its face? Of course, we’re talking about the Independence Day scene. Will Smith is definitely an eclectic actor that has risen to prominence like a rocket. Not everyone knows that his favorite book is the color of water by James McBride. Will Smith is amazed by the color of water characters, that have power and humanity inside of them. This is a book about freedom and power of soul.
13. Leonardo DiCaprio
In total, Leo has had 161 nominations to most prestigious film awards these days. And he finally got the Oscar he deserved for years, for his fantastic role in the breathtaking The Revenant.
14. Morgan Freeman
Morgan Freeman is God. Literally God. He’s starred in so many movies that it would take us an eternity to even enumerate. Notable appearances: Se7en, Million Dollar Baby, The Dark Knight.
15. Robin Williams
None funnier than Mr. Robin, who has entertained us for decades until he couldn’t muster the power to pretend he was happy. One of the saddest losses not only of cinema but of the entire world.
16. Al Pacino
The Triple Crown of Acting – check! Al Pacino seldom needs any introduction. Sorry, Corleone doesn’t need any introduction. Hopefully, we won’t be walking on the bottom of the ocean…. If you know what we mean by saying this.
17. Marlon Brando
Brando is one of the most prominent cinema figures of the 20th century. He was to cinema what Elvis was for rock and roll. Even nowadays, he influences countless actors that try to emulate his distinct acting style and charismatic mannerisms.
18. Ralph Fiennes
Probably the single actor that can go from menacing to totally cool within a second, without giving the impression he’s acting it all up. He’s the Lord Voldemort we love to hate and the one and only Heathcliff worth watching.
19. Christopher Walken
Walken can freeze all the blood in your body just by looking at you. But then again, that’s further proof that he can act. Big-time. At the moment, he’s starred in more than 100 movies and TV shows.
20. Joe Pesci
We’ll always think of him as the burglar that is beaten into submission by a kid, but Pesci has had roles in plenty of films that made him one of the most successful actors of the 21st century.
There are thousands of actors all over the world and it would be really difficult to make a survey with results that would be set in stone. However, what we can do is to bring to the fore just a few of them that have been and still are iconic in the cinema industry.
These 20 here have acted in some of the best movies that have ever been made and truly deserve to be this in this top. This is not to say others weren’t as talented – of course not. Maybe you can tell us what those would be?
